I’m B.B. Soto

Word Weaver | Symbol Reader | Message Carrier

Also known as, Rita Sotolongo (to my friends and family)

And I planted my roots in Central Florida almost twenty years ago. I graduated with a degree in Art History from the University of Central Florida in 2012. I chose not to pursue graduate degrees since not one of the universities or colleges in Orlando offers art history at the master’s or doctoral level, and I didn’t want to move. Instead, I realized what I missed most about school was writing… so I decided I’d do that.

The universe stepped in, though, and led me to marketing where I was able to tie-in my background in photography with my love of writing and have a creative career. It’s been a wonderful 10+ years of working freelance for agencies, publishing companies, and private clients. Along the way, I’ve picked up a 200-hour yoga teacher certification, a certificate in mindfulness-based stress reduction meditation, among several other skills having nothing to do with marketing whatsoever.

In 2023, I set out to be a freelance marketing consultant again. It’s time to share my knowledge with the many small business owners and do-it-yourself marketers out there who need help but don’t have big budgets. I am tired of seeing heart-centered entrepreneurs struggle because they can’t compete with bigger businesses. And I am tired of agencies gatekeeping the resources and charging astronomical prices for their services. I want to see self-employment be a successful lifestyle choice all the way from the freelance artist to the brick-and-mortar store owner. And I believe everyone deserves a fair shot. So BB Soto Marketing is my way of sharing what I’ve learned in my decade of being self-employed and working in marketing.

Over the years I also took my obsession with symbology (what led to my degree in art history) and finally began learning tarot. Cartomancy quickly became my spiritual practice after back injuries made practicing yoga almost impossible due to physical limitations. Over the years I started reading for friends and family, and then at private events, and now I’m full-blown open-to-the-public available for readings.

The name BB Soto came to me while meditating during the time I was grieving the loss of my physical ability to move through life the way I’d always done. Anguished that my years of healing journeys felt like they hadn’t transformed me into the metaphorical butterfly, I opened my eyes in a moment of despair. And there, hanging on the wall in front of me, was my beautiful blue butterfly specimen with its broken wing tip. It was the first thing I saw, and I knew. I had gone through the transformation process, I’d simply emerged a broken butterfly. One who is learning to soar even though her wings aren’t perfect. And the alter ego BB Soto was born.
